COLOUR

These are character banners that I've designed for several different on-line role-playing games, hosted by DreamLyrics. (I accept no responsibility for the bitmapped fonts btw.)

Gripen was drawn with felt tip pens, whilst both Sonata and Trystan were B&W pen and ink drawings that were coloured in Photoshop. Note: The artist that did the origination for Sonata is not known to me, however Trystan was originally a Dragonrider (PC Portrait) drawn by Sam Wood and downloaded from the www.tsr.com, the official web site of DUNGEONS & DRAGONS.

Another character banner I designed was Rimbul - drawn and coloured in Photoshop.

In the close-up you can see that the image isn't as tight as when I use a scan as a background layer. I don't usually do origination in Photoshop, much prefering to use a pen and paper.

For more information on how to colour a scan in Photoshop, check out my Images and Information coursework - How to make your own design element.

There you will learn how to produce something like the following (except better):

GREYSCALE

Yet another Nomad-style character from my Vampire: The Masquerade/Cyberpunk: 2.0.2.0. crossover. I really like the textures of leather and denim when combined - the clothes seem wearable and not an afterthought.

(Variation on a theme here.) Yes, a Nomad-style character but at least he's got short hair. A 0.3 mm pencil with a combination of 2H and HB leads allows you to put fine detail into a piece of work. Here the arm hairs, shoulder holster and even the Zimbabwean flag, for example. Don't forget to adjust those curves (Photoshop) when you scan in your pencil drawings, otherwise your image may seem flat.
